Laughlin Selected As One Of Only Twenty Realtors Nationwide for Prestigious Ten Month Program
VAIL, CO, USA – Betsy Laughlin, Vail Valley broker with LIV Sotheby’s International Realty (LIV SIR), has been named to the incoming Leadership Academy class for the National Association of Realtors (NAR.) Leadership has always been a huge part of Laughlin’s story, as she served on the Vail Board of Realtors (VBR) from 2014-2019, as MLS Chair for the VBR from 2017-2018, VBR Chair in 2019, and was named as Realtor of the Year in 2020. She is currently serving on the Finance Committee and the Government Affairs Committee for the VBR as well. At the state level, she was the Mountain District Chair for Colorado Association of Realtors (CAR) from 2020-2021. According to Laughlin “It’s the culture I was raised in as the oldest of five children. It’s always interested me, and I feel that it should be our duty to give back. I also went through the Colorado Leadership Academy. After another local realtor went through the Leadership Academy at the national level, she encouraged me to apply as well.” Typically between 150-200 realtors apply for a chance to be chosen for the leadership academy, and Laughlin says, “The goal is to recruit leaders for the national association.” The group will meet four times over the next year, and I they will also complete a capstone project before it culminates. According to Laughlin “We’ll have a pulse on what’s happening in the industry across the country and have consistency across the nation, so homebuyers can expect the same experience buying or selling a home from one state to another.” Laughlin recognizes the value of collaboration as well as representation for resort communities such as the Vail Valley. She says “There is a sense that the Front Range metro markets get to make decisions without always considering results for the Western Slope, and I work to find common sense solutions while representing the resorts. We had 15 bills that we looked at last year at the state level through the Legislative Policy Committee, and the reason that I do it is I want to understand what happens behind the scenes of government. Laughlin has been involved with boots on the ground in both Denver and Washington, D.C. as a vocal advocate for homeowners. During the 10-month academy, participants will learn the history, structure and inner workings of the NAR while gaining key insights designed to prepare them to serve in prominent leadership positions at all levels of the association.
