As the 29th bonded winery in Paso Robles, this 10.5-acre estate holds a significant place in the local wine industry’s history. It was among the first to set down roots in the Westside Paso Robles area, which has since grown into a hub of elite winemaking brands. Located along Highway 46 West, the property sits near notable neighbors such as Booker Winery, Tooth & Nail, and other acclaimed Paso icons.

Rich Hartenberger, the winemaker behind Midnight Cellars, reflects on why his family chose this location: “My father loved the area so much he wanted to both live and work here. It wasn't called Willow Creek back then; it was just ‘West Side.’ The rolling hills and positive feedback from the neighbors made it an easy choice.”

The sale includes a fully permitted 5,000 sq. ft. indoor production facility and a similarly sized covered outdoor area, along with a 2-acre Malbec vineyard. The estate is designed to produce up to 15,000 cases of wine annually, offering established infrastructure and additional plantable land for future growth. “The Malbec planting, while still in Willow Creek, is flat and easy to farm,” Hartenberger explains. “The hilltop also offers amazing views to the south and could make an incredible house site.”

Beyond winemaking, the property offers a large outdoor venue space suitable for hosting events and tastings, making it a popular destination for wine lovers and event organizers. This outdoor setting adds to the estate’s charm and its appeal for hospitality-driven ventures.

Reflecting on his decades in the region, Hartenberger says, “My parents, my wife, and I were the 29th winery in the appellation back in 1995. We established our forever home for the winery in 1997 and have been part of the explosive growth and popularity of the area. I look forward to focusing on smaller, passion projects while passing the torch to the next steward of this historic estate.”

The estate’s location within the Willow Creek District is ideal for high-quality grape production, thanks to the region’s distinct terroir and strong marine influence. The district’s calcareous soils allow for the cultivation of bold, expressive wines, further enhancing the winery’s allure.
