For his 21st birthday Danny Sullivan received admittance to a course at the Jim Russell Racing Drivers School in England, which set the pace for his extraordinary career. Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, Sullivan had a string of jobs before entering the racing circuit full time, including a stint as a lumberjack, and most famously a New York City cab driver.
His racing career included appearances at the PPG and CART Indycar series’, he was on the Tyrrell Formula One team, appeared at the Monaco Grand Prix, the World Drivers' Championship, the Race of Champions, and the Michigan 500. Perhaps the peak of his racing career was in 1985 when Sullivan won the Indianapolis 500, after passing Mario Andretti for the win.
Sullivan was inducted into the Motorsports Walk of Fame on April 15, 2011, along the route of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. He currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Tempus Jets and its parent company, Orion Air Group, LLC. He also has various business dealings with Lexus, ABC, ESPN, CBS, Red Bull, Acura and Toyota.
Once considered the most recognizable name in American Motorsports, Sullivan’s international notoriety led to an appearance on the “Tonight Show”, a guest role on an episode of “Miami Vice”, guest roles on soap operas, and he played a police officer in Oliver Stone's "The Doors" (it’s understandable that at one time he was called "Hollywood"). He was also named one of People magazine’s ‘50 Most Beautiful People’.
The 11th Annual Spring Retreat, one of several international luxury real estate networking events, will be held April 21st-24th in Carmel, CA, USA. Sullivan’s speaking fee will be given as a donation to The First Tee, an internationally respected organization that promotes life skills and leadership for youth through the game of golf.
