Kapalua is where the island of Maui makes a turn from the dry, calmer leeward side to a more Northerly orientation. As a result, exposure to northeasterly tradewinds makes Kapalua notably greener and cooler. Many of Kapalua’s former pineapple fields are now residential developments. A short drive North of Kapalua is Honolua Bay – arguably one of Hawaii’s most perfect surf spots. Golf at Kapalua is world-class, and an annual stop on the PGA tour Tournament of Champions.
