Harry Haarup is a retired Vietnam fighter pilot who, after training, flew a couple hundred missions. Now, he enjoys his work with Resources as a real estate agent who has partnered with his wife, Pat Haarup. Harry has also worked on the marketing end of business at American Express, and upon retiring, invented the American Express Gift Check.
“Once you pass the point in your life when you don’t want to hop on a train to New York, being a real estate agent is a nice way to make money, meet people and be part of a positive-thinking group,” said Harry, current president of the Military Officers Association of Central Jersey, a nationwide operation of retired officers.

When they first started out, the Haarups began with another more corporate real estate firm. But, Harry said, “ Resources is a mid-sized privately owned company with more flexibility, which we appreciated.”
It’s not only about flexibility within the company, but also when it comes to consideration of family life. “Especially in today’s world where mothers and fathers are working, it’s nice to be able to be a grandparent who can pinch hit after school, for sporting events or whatever is needed,” said Harry, who has two grandchildren. “It’s better than being tied to a desk for 40 hours with another 20 hours a week spent commuting.”
