The property and these endless acres of public land are home to whitetail and mule deer, elk, bear, moose, duck, geese, and other incredible wildlife. Easily accessible off Montana Highway 43 before the Dickie Bridge, 15± minutes to Wise River, Montana and its airstrip, and less than an hour to Butte and its commercial airport, it is easy to imagine spending your days fishing on this property while being a stone’s throw away from amenities and airports.
A bucket list must for any passionate angler, the Big Hole River is one of the most sought-after fishing destinations in the country for a reason. The Montana Angling Guide describes the Big Hole River as having “optimum water variety, challenge, plenty of nice fish and the insect life to support it.” This classic riffle, run, pool water is excellent to float in June during high water. Early summer is when the famous salmon fly hatch occurs. The adult salmon fly is two to three inches long and can drive the largest trout in the river to forego their cautious ways and feed. The river is easily waded during the lower-water months of July through October, when caddis, hoppers, tricos, and many other mayflies dominate. Streamer fishing can be fantastic throughout the spring, summer, and fall but is particularly enjoyable in the weeks leading up to the salmon fly hatch and again in the fall.
